Grandmother was unaware that her 3-year-old nephew was fatally wounded in the road rage incident.

Arkansas law enforcement officers are looking for a driver involved in a road rage incident that led to the death of a 3-year-old boy. Kim King-Macon, the victim’s grandmother was transporting her two grandkids to the Shackleford Crossing Center on Sunday, December 18th, in order to meet with other family members. However, both the grandmother, as well as the other 1-year-old occupant were unharmed in the incident

According to Ms. King-Macon, the suspect’s car pulled behind her vehicle at a stop sign at the residential intersection of Mabelvale Cutoff and Warren Drive while she was trying to turn. Because the traffic was moving slowly due to the bad weather conditions, the driver grew impatient and started honking. When Ms. King-Macon honked back, the enraged suspect got out of his car and headed straight for the grandmother’s vehicle. Kim King-Macon says the suspect was holding a gun and was trying to intimidate her. However, she was not aware of the fact that the man had fired the gun in the car. It was not for another ten miles when she noticed the bullet injured his 3-year-old grandson when she pulled in a J.C. Penney parking lot in Little Rock.

According to the police Lt. Steve McClanahan, the grandmother alerted the authorities right away. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to save his life and was pronounced dead “a very short time later”.

At the time of the incident, Lt. McClanahan was enjoying a day off together with his family, including his own 3-year-old son. Because he can relate to caring for a 3-year-old son, he said that the incident affected him on a personal note and motivates him to bring the suspect to justice. For that matter, the police department issued a $20,000 reward for any person who can provide helpful information on the suspect that could lead to his arrest. The law enforcement officers describe the perpetrator as a black male driving a 2003 to 2005 model black Chevrolet Impala.

When reporters asked Lt. McClanahan how was it possible for the grandmother not to hear the gunshot, the law enforcement officer believed a mix of weather conditions and other factors prevented Ms. King-Macon from realizing that her grandchild has been shot.

“It was raining hard. I don’t know if she had a radio on”, says Lt. McClanahan.

He added that the police is looking at the event strictly as a road rage incident. Ultimately he asked people to dial 9-1-1 locally if they have any valuable information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.
