The offer is available only to those who claim it
According to a recent announcement, Microsoft offers 15GB free storage to OneDrive users. Besides 15GB of free cloud storage, the company also offers a ‘bonus’ of 15GB Camera Roll storage.
The decision came as a surprise for Microsoft users, after previously being announced that they will only be offered 5GB. Now users have the chance of claiming some of their storage back, after it has been reduced from unlimited to only 5GB.
However, in order to benefit from the offer, users will first have to claim it through Microsoft’s website until January 31, 2016. By doing so, they have to agree to receive promotional emails from the company. Even if they say it is possible to unsubscribe later, they haven’t make it quite clear how to do that.
Microsoft became more popular during the last year, after opening up Windows 10 and after the development of Office and of Solitaire but its image has been seriously affected after reducing the unlimited storage of OneDrive. This decision brought them more than 70,000 complaining users who also started a petition called ‘give us back our storage’, especially since an earlier deal was supposed to offer unlimited OneDrive Storage to all its Office 365 subscribers.
Office 365 users who are unsatisfied by the cut in the unlimited storage can give up on the service and ask for their money back.
After ending the unlimited storage offer, the company has promised 15GB of free storage, which it later cut again to only 5GB. This second decision outraged most of their users. Now it seems that the new offer comes to undo the damage made by their previous announcement. However, the new offer is limited, being available only for those who will claim it until January 31. More than that, it will still affect users who are not aware of this offer.
In this moment, Microsoft offers up to 1TB storage to those who subscribe to Office 265 Personal, paying $6.99 per month. Smaller and cheaper subscriptions are also available, such as $1.99 for 100GB and $3.99 for 200GB.
OneDrive is Microsoft’s file hosting service which lets users sync files which will then be accessible from any device connected to the internet. It also allows users to share photos with their friends. For the publicly shared pictures, the viewers don’t need a Microsoft account.
